Clinical practice
Dr. Patton treats the full range of adult spine conditions, including disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, cervical myelopathy, adult scoliosis and deformity, spinal trauma, spinal tumors and revision surgery. He has practiced at Luminis Health since 2011 and sees patients in Annapolis and Pasadena. He operates at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center and an affiliated ambulatory surgery center.
His approach is conservative first. Most spine problems improve without surgery. When surgery is the right answer, he favors the least invasive operation that will reliably solve the problem, and same-day discharge when it's safe.

Leadership
As Medical Director of Spine Surgery since 2014, Dr. Patton built Luminis Health's spine program from three providers into a multidisciplinary team spanning spine surgery, physiatry, pain medicine and interventional spine care, with a primary-care access pathway so patients reach the right specialist sooner. He led the shift of appropriate spine procedures to the outpatient surgery center.
Nationally, he has served the North American Spine Society (NASS) as Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee and Vice Chairman of the Advocacy Council, working in Washington, DC on patient access to spine care. He is AO Spine faculty and adjunct faculty at Rush University.
Research
Dr. Patton has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications on spine surgery outcomes, patient-reported outcomes (PROMIS), value-based care and health disparities. His team's outcomes work analyzes how thousands of surgical patients function after surgery, which helps set realistic expectations and improve care.
Recognition
